Overview
The Jozani natural forest reserve is located in the central east region of Zanzibar Island and is home to the red colobus monkey that is rarely found in other parts of the world. Other attractions are mangrove swamps with salt marshes and huge varieties of tropical trees, reptiles, birds and butterflies, where you have a chance to be close to them for a picture.
During a guided tour of the forest, you will learn about the various monkey species unique to Zanzibar. Troops of Zanzibar red colobus monkeys can be found scrambling from branch to branch or one tree to another in search of food. The monkeys have become accustomed to people and allow you to get close enough to capture them in photographs as they eat, play, and jump from the treetops.
The mangrove boardwalk takes you above the swamp where, depending on the tide, you can see tropical fish flitting between the mangrove roofs and crabs scuttling across the mud.
